  • How often should I eat one during training, or a race?

    Fueling frequency is personalized; guidelines from Ironman coaches recommend 250-400 calories per hour, depending on exercise intensity, duration, and your overall mix of hydration and solid fuel intake.

    Quantum Energy Squares provide approximately 200 calories each, depending on the flavor, and contain a slow-burning blend of carbohydrate, “good” fats, plant-based proteins and caffeine from organic green coffee (100mg).

    Quantum is served on-course at all IRONMAN U.S. events. To establish your individual fueling needs for racing, best practice is to experiment in training with fuel quantities and frequency to create an intake schedule which works best for you. Get started with one bar 30-60 minutes before your next training workout, incorporate another during your sessions (90 minutes into your run, bike or swim practice, for example) and fine tune your fueling plan for race day.

  • Is caffeine beneficial for a training or racing fuel source?

  • How do these provide caffeine energy while avoiding stomach jitters?

  • How far in advance of a race should I train with these?

Normalizing your digestion with the on-course fuel, as far ahead of time as possible, helps to eliminate variables and prepares you for a great triathlon performance and experience on race day.

  • What does Slow-Burn Energy mean, why is it important?

    Caffeine alone, sugary drinks or gels, consumed without essential nutrients from food, can lead to an energy spike, followed by a crash. Watch feed stations during a triathlon, and you’ll see many who come into the feed zone depleted or panicked, because they fueled with products which were metabolized too quickly, and they’re desperate to replenish energy.
